BLANTYRE, Malawi (AP) — (AP) — Malawi's highest court says Madonna can adopt a second child from the southern African country.

The Supreme Court of Appeal said Friday that a lower court failed to take modern realities into account in initially rejecting Madonna's application to adopt 3-year-old Chifundo "Mercy" James.

Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo also says Madonna's commitment to the welfare of disadvantaged children should have been taken into account.

International Singer Paulina Rubio named Tourism Ambassador for Quintana Roo

Quintana Roo Governor, Felix Gonzalez, assured the economy of this entity is in full recovery and that with this action the image of the destinations in the Mexican Caribbean and the rest of the country will be projected on a global level

CANCUN, June 2nd, 2009 – Quintana Roo Governor, Felix Gonzalez, has named international singer Paulina Rubio Tourism Ambassador for Quintana Roo with the purpose of reinforcing promotional activities for the state and projecting the image of the Mexican Caribbean destinations within the strategy of the national plan to reactivate tourism.

During the ceremony that took place on June 1st, the Governor thanked the Mexican artist for her solidarity with the country, but more specifically, with Quintana Roo, now that in previous occasions she has shown her unconditional support for this state in the face of adversities.

“After Hurricane Wilma passed through our lands, Paulina Rubio decided to have her wedding in the Riviera Maya; this transmitted to the entire world that we had recuperated,” stated Gonzalez as an example of the singer’s dedication to the state during the press conference where he announced the appointment. Also in attendance were the Mayor of Benito Juarez, Gregorio Sanchez Martinez; the CEO of the Cancun CVB, Jesus Almaguer Salazar; the Honorary Consulate of Spain in Cancun, Javier Marañon Cañadas, and Local Representative of the Tourism Commission, Aurelio Joaquin.

In addition, Gonzalez referred to the singer as “a friend of Quintana Roo,” since she has always served the state and its people by promoting the beauty of the natural habitats and archeological sites, the quality of restaurants and the entertainment auditoriums and halls, among other places that can be found in the state.

He also emphasized how the naming of Paulina Rubio as Tourism Ambassador for Quintana Roo is part of the actions being taken to reactivate tourism following the H1N1 health crisis, and that after this moment, the international singer will kickoff a campaign encouraging visitors from all over the world to visit the Mexican Caribbean, as well as inviting artists to visit the destinations in Quintana Roo.

“We encourage all our allies to take part in this effort, telling the world that Mexico, Cancun and the Riviera Maya are ready to be a part of the unforgettable moments of our visitors,” he expressed. On her part, the singer Paulina Rubio thanked the governor for instilling his trust in her, and she made a commitment to promoting the state through her public image, her tours, concerts and Web pages, where she will let the world know about the recuperation and quality that Quintana Roo offers its tourists.

Rachel Stevens, the singer and star of Strictly Come Dancing, was robbed of jewellery including her engagement ring by three muggers who followed her home.

The three men ambushed the former S Club 7 singer as she entered her flat in north London, making her hand over several items.

The haul reportedly included an engagement ring, a necklace and a Rolex watch.

A spokesman for Stevens, 31, who came second in last year's Strictly Come Dancing show, described the experience as "distressing".

She is engaged to actor Alex Bourne, with their wedding planned for this summer.

According to The Sun, police are probing whether the gang had been following Stevens' movements during a shopping trip. She was attacked at around 4pm.

Scotland Yard said: "It's believed the woman returned to her flat and was followed in to the premises by three males. The suspects are understood to have threatened her before making off with a quantity of jewellery."

One of the robbers was white and the two others were black, police said.

But as Spencer explained, "Super-celebrities don't belong in the jungle. They belong in Hollywood with the paparazzi."
